Catawba Valley Medical Center presents Byerly Foundation Scrub/Assistant Award

HICKORY, NC – Nov. 22, 2013 – Catawba Valley Medical Center presented the 2013 Byerly Foundation Scrub/Assistant Award to Shane Sigmon, surgical technologist, Surgical Services. Sigmon is a 12-year member of the orthopedic team.

“Shane is an extremely hard worker; he is always willing to help others out even without being asked,” said Michele McGlamery, administrator, Surgical Services. “He goes above and beyond his call of duty. He is a great asset to the Operating Room team and Catawba Valley Medical Center.”

The Byerly Foundation Scrub/Assistant Award is presented annually to a member of the Catawba Valley Medical Center Surgical Services team. In 1991, Dr. Grimes Byerly and Dr. James Fahl created the Byerly Foundation Scrub/Assistant Award as a way to recognize the scrub/assistant role in the operating room. Award winners must provide direct care for surgical patients and are recognized for their surgical skill set, knowledge of the perioperative environment, teamwork, demeanor, attendance, exceeding the requirements of their position, and overall support of Catawba Valley Medical Center.
