Make Halloween Less Spooky with these Safety Tips

There’s no denying that Halloween is one of the most anticipated nights of the year. From the over-flowing bags of candy to the cute, creative costumes, it proves to be a fun-filled time for both kids and parents alike. Unfortunately it produces some spooky statistics when it comes to child safety. According to Safe Kids Worldwide, children are more than twice as likely to be hit by a car and killed on Halloween than on any other day of the year.

Help keep your children safe this Halloween by following these 5 tips:

Check the treats. Make sure to examine all treats for choking hazards and tampering before letting your children eating them.

Pick a costumes that fits. When selecting your child’s costume make sure it’s the right size and doesn’t cover their eyes to prevent trips and falls

Never trick-or-treat alone. Your child should always trick-or-treat in groups or with a trusted adult.

Ensure safety on the street. Mark treat bags and costumes with reflective tape and have children carry a flashlight so drivers can see them.

Make your home a safe tick-or-treat zone. Keep porches and walkways clear of candles and other obstacles, but make sure the outside of your house is still well lit. Even if they seem harmless to you, keep family pets away from trick-or-treaters.
