A six-week wait for swimmers at the CVMC Fitness Plus Center pool ends
Friday, July 1st! First opened in 1998, the indoor swimming pool will
reopen following a major overhaul and extensive upgrades including new
pool surfaces in and around the pool, more inviting entrance steps and
an updated chair lift to facilitate access for members with restricted
accessibility. Maintaining a comfortable 88°F with depths ranging
from 3.5 to 5 feet, the pool is a popular amenity for members participating
in regular pool therapy, aquatic exercise classes and for those just learning to swim.
Originally funded by a generous contribution to the Catawba Medical Foundation
by Conover residents Ed and Shirley Arditti, the pool offers an excellent
environment for improving health or regaining mobility as part of a comprehensive
rehabilitation plan. It’s healing, non-intimidating environment
provides a relaxing and safe therapeutic experience for the aging and
rehab population.
“I found the buoyancy of water put less strain on my joints and created
a safer environment where I didn’t worry about losing my balance,”
said Ed. “Shirley and I wanted to give others in the area access
to a pool where they could experience relief from the pain associated
with numerous health conditions in an environment that caters to rehabilitation.”
Water dumbbells, noodles and balls are also available for use to enhance
strength training in the water. Aqua therapy offers many advantages and
benefits to individuals recovering from injury or illness. The scope of
patient diagnoses treated in the CVMC pool is surprisingly vast, encompassing
everything from post-surgical, non-surgical, orthopedic, rheumatologic,
pre-natal, bariatric neurological and chronic pain. It is the therapeutic
properties of the water combined with the skill and specialized training
of Fitness Plus’ aquatic therapists that helps improve mobility
and function.
Exercising in a buoyant environment is an excellent option whether you
are an athlete needing to train during an injury or a morbidly obese individual
who may exceed weight limits on fitness equipment. In addition to exercising
in the pool at your own convenience, Fitness Plus offers a number of aqua
classes and swim lessons including the following:
