CVMC CFO David Boone to Retire

HICKORY, NC – June 27, 2017 – David Boone, Chief Financial Officer of Catawba Valley Medical Center (CVMC) since 1984 announced that he will be retiring June 30.

During his tenure, Boone contributed greatly to the success of the hospital and is a pillar in the community with involvement in organizations including the United Way, Catawba Valley Community College, PACE@Home, Rotary Club and other professional boards. In October 2016, Boone was named to The Order of the Long Leaf Pine, considered the highest honor the Governor can confer. The award recognizes citizens for their exemplary service and outstanding contributions to the State of North Carolina and the community.

A hallmark of Boone’s career is an unwavering commitment to preserving the mission upon which the hospital, originally known as Catawba Memorial Hospital, was originally founded in the 1960’s. Today, as the area’s “safety net” hospital, CVMC provides about $12 million per year in charity care services for low-income or uninsured patients and Boone has successfully lead the challenge of absorbing those costs while also navigating the uncertainty of healthcare reform and the Affordable Care Act.

“David has been an invaluable asset to the medical center, the community and to me,” says CVMC President and CEO Tony Rose. “I have had the unique pleasure of working with David for most of my career and, while I’ll be forever grateful for his integrity and dedication, I wish him all the best upon retiring.”

Boone’s astute financial leadership has guided the hospital in a number of major expansions including a $34 million dollar Patient Pavilion project completed in 2012. Boone was also involved in the growth of Catawba Valley Medical Group from six family medicine practices to 15, along with three specialty practices and four employee health centers.

Boone’s planned retirement was first announced in February with the appointment of his successor, Kimberly S. Crews, CPA MHA. Since that time, he has been assisting with the transition of the CFO office and its key supporting functions.
