We strive to provide quality healthcare, promote physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual well being of the public served and to be a center of health education, wellness services, preventive medicine and acute care throughout Catawba County and surrounding areas.

We understand that healthcare costs can be expensive and often unexpected. CVMC offers multiple payment options to fit the patient’s financial needs.

Insurance Claims Filing

Insurance claims are submitted when complete and accurate information is received. We submit forms as a courtesy service for patients. Please note that submitting insurance claims is not a guarantee of payment from the insurance carrier.

Please present a current insurance card when registering and checking in for services. The information on the card is important for correct identification of insurance benefits. Your insurance company may have a timely filing deadline that must be met in order for your benefits to be paid, so please provide cards as soon as possible.

Co-Pays and Deductibles

Patients with commercial or managed care coverage are responsible for paying co-pays, deductibles and fees for non-covered services at the time of service. Please review your insurance policy benefits. If you have questions about coverage, contact your employer or insurance company.

Prior Authorization/Pre-certification

Many insurance companies require prior authorization or pre-certification for medical services. CVMC makes attempts on your behalf to provide information requested by your insurance company including contacts to your physician’s office which will allow your insurance company to make a coverage determination.

Worker’s Compensation

If you are hurt as a result of an injury on the job, Catawba Valley Medical Center will bill your employer or your employer’s Worker’s Compensation carrier. In cases where Worker’s Compensation denies the claim or services received include work-related as well as non-work-related healthcare services, your health insurance information will be needed.

Medicare

We will submit Medicare claims for patients. Patients are responsible for deductibles, co-insurance and amounts for non-covered services.

  • Medicare Part A – covers inpatient hospitalization services
  • Medicare Part B – covers outpatient hospital services and medical (physician) services
  • Medicare Part C – covers various healthcare services based on your benefits and is considered Medicare Managed Care
  • Medicare Part D – covers retail pharmacy items and are not billable services for Catawba Valley Medical Center

Business Services submits insurance claims for Medicare supplemental insurance when accurate and complete information has been provided.

Medicaid

We will submit claims to Medicaid if you have presented a current valid card or verification of coverage has been obtained through the Department of Social Services. You may be responsible for a portion of the charges if Medicaid determines a co-pay or deductible is due.

Long-Term Payment Program

Some patients are unable to pay balances in full and need extended time to pay for services. CVMC has partnered with AccessOne, a long-term financing company to assist patients in these situations. AccessOne will establish affordable payment arrangements without a credit check and without a lengthy application. All patients will qualify by agreeing to accept the terms of the AccessOne payment program. Sending partial payments to CVMC does not establish a formal payment plan.

Financial Counseling

CVMC has Financial Counselors on staff to assist with potential eligibility for North Carolina Medicaid and our Uninsured/Charity Program. Patients are required to provide financial information to qualify for these programs in accordance with the current federal poverty guidelines.

Credit and Collection Practices

Insurance claims are submitted within days of service to Medicare, Medicaid, Commercial, Managed Care, Liability and other carriers. Patients are expected to pay any known co-pays, deductibles and non-covered amounts when services are received. All requests for payments are based upon ESTIMATED amounts and are not considered final billing totals. Any remaining balances due will be sent once the insurance company has paid or denied. The balance is due and payable upon receipt of your statement.

During your treatment you may receive care from physicians or other healthcare providers who will bill separately for their services. Some of these providers may include your private physician, emergency room physician, radiologist, pathologist, anesthesiologist, ambulance services and others.
