Cafeteria
Hot meals are served in Catawba Valley Medical Center's cafeteria daily between the hours of 5am - 10am, 11am - 8pm and 9pm - 12 midnight. The cafeteria is located on the Lower Level (LL) Floor. Call (828) 326-2050 for the cafeteria menu line. Vending services offering beverages and snacks are available in the cafeteria on the Lower Level, in the Emergency Department and in the Day Surgery Lobby.

If you have compliments or concerns regarding your stay, please call our CARE Line at 828.326.CARE (2273).

Care Coordination
Patient Care Managers, Registered Nurses and Medical Social Workers support patients and their families through the emotional and financial burdens associated with illness and hospitalization. Referral services include home health, nursing home placement, patient and family counseling, and identifying necessary community resources.

Coffee Shop
Open Monday – Friday 7:30am – 3pm, the Coffee Shop is located in the main lobby. Our food and beverage menu includes a variety of specialty coffee and espresso drinks, deli sandwiches, salads, grab-and-go items and seasonal selections.

Environmental Services
All patient rooms are cleaned daily by Environmental Services for your health and comfort. If there is a housekeeping problem, please call the Environmental Services Department at (828) 326-3358 or (828) 326-3755. Healting and cooling are centrally controlled. Linens are changed by nursing staff when soiled or upon request. Please contact your nurse if your room is comfortable or if you would like your linens changed.

Obtaining an Ethics Consultation
Catawba Valley Medical Center’s Ethics Advisory Council is available to assist when a conflict pertaining to patient care arises. A patient, family member, guardian or a healthcare provider may make a request for consultation.

To contact the Ethics Advisory Council, use any telephone within the hospital and dial “0.” Ask the operator for the Administrator on Duty. When the Administrator on Duty returns your call, state that you are requesting assistance from the Ethics Advisory Council to help resolve a conflict in patient care. There is no charge for an ethics consultation.

Food Services
All patient meals are prepared according to dietary instructions given by your physician. A Nutrition Care representative will visit you for meal selections and to answer your questions. Clinical dietitians are available to explain any special diet requirements, and a certified diabetes educator can assist in determinimg the patient's nutritional needs.

Meal times are:

Breakfast - 7am - 8:30am
Lunch - 11am - 12:30pm
Dinner 4pm - 5:30pm

Meal times vary according to your location. Currently, we offer same day menu service. The breakfast meal is a pattern menu. Your Nutritional Care Associate will deliver a menu with your breakfast tray for you to make selections for the lunch and dinner meals.

If you are on a multi-restricted diet, you may not be offered menu selections. Communicate to your Nutrition Care Associate or Nurse about meal selections. If the Nutritional Care Associate or Nurse cannot accommodate your dietary needs, please call extension 3357.

Gift Shop
Operated by Auxiliary volunteers, the Gift Shop is open Monday - Friday from 9am to 5pm.

Mail And Flowers
All mail or flowers addressed to you as our patient will be delivered to your room. After discharge, any additional mail will be forwarded to you.

Telephone Service
A telephone is provided in each patient room so you can easily communicate with friends and family.

  • To place a local call, dial 9, the 3-digit area code, and the number. The area code for Catawba Valley Medical Center is 828. Dialing inside the hospital does not require the 326 prefix.
  • For operator-assisted, long-distance calls, dial 9 and 0 for the long-distance operator so your call can be charged to your home phone or credit card.

Family members may call you directly by dialing (828) 326-2 and your room number for rooms located in the main tower. For rooms located in the Pavilion, persons outside the hospital should dial 828.732.6 plus the room number. The Pavilion includes the Center for Women & Children (Birthing and Neonatal Intensive Care) as well as Inpatient Oncology.

Volunteers
Auxiliary volunteers contribute many hours to the medical center and our patients. Services include delivery of mail/flowers, staffing of the information desk and gift shop, and various other duties through the facility.
