PGY1 Pharmacy Residency Program

The PGY1 Pharmacy Residency Program gives in-depth experience in a broad area of pharmacy practice including antimicrobial stewardship, pharmacokinetics, drug information, internal medicine, intensive care, oncology and administration. Residents present formal lectures, inservices and prepare a major project. The resident also serves as preceptor for pharmacy clerkship students during some rotations. Residency Highlights

Exposure to medical academic training in a community-based hospital setting

Required Core Learning Experiences (6 week rotations unless otherwise noted)

  • Critical Care
  • Med Safety / Informatics
  • Internal Medicine
  • Medical / Surgical
  • Intermediate Care / Cardiology
  • Orientation to Med Dispensing
  • Residency Project /Orientation Month (4 weeks)
  • Psychiatry (6 weeks)

Required Longitudinal Learning Experiences

  • Administrative / Management (26 weeks)
  • Med Safety/Informatics (6 or 26 weeks)
  • Precepting / Teaching Certificate (52 weeks)
  • Research & Evidence-Based Practice (52 weeks)

2 Required Elective Learning Experiences (6 week rotations unless otherwise noted)

  • Emergency Medicine
  • Infectious Disease / Antimicrobial Stewardship
  • Internal Medicine 2

Certificate Requirements

PGY1 Pharmacy Residency Program Completion Certificates will ONLY be awarded upon successful completion of the following...

  • Must receive North Carolina pharmacy license no later than November 1st of the year hired.- Required learning experiences as listed above plus two (2) electives at satisfactory or above expectations. Completed preferably within the twelve (12) month contract of employment. May be allowed an extension of no more than three (3) months at residency pay with prior approval by Residency Director
  • Achievement of no less than 80% of all program objectives
  • Poster presentation at ASHP Midyear Conference
  • Podium presentation at a regional residency conference
  • Two (2) one (1) hour Continuing Education (CE) for Pharmacy Staff in collaboration with other resident(s)
  • Maintains employment eligibility as outlined by Human Resources throughout the entire residency program
  • No outstanding bills / financial obligations with Catawba Valley Health System
    (e.g. all advanced payments received must have detailed receipts turned into finance as detailed by policy)

Staffing requirement every third weekend

Travel to & presentation at a regional residency conference

Travel to & presentation at ASHP Midyear Conference

$54,400 / year salary with paid time off (PTO) & optional insurance benefits

Requirements:

  • Applicants must graduate from an Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) accredited Doctor of Pharmacy degree program
  • Applicants must be licensed or eligible for license in the state of North Carolina
  • Catawba Valley Medical Center is a participant in the Resident Matching Program (RMP)
