Doctor Peter N. Purcell and Family Nurse Practitioners, Teri Lee and Ashley Albrecht welcome you to their Vascular Surgery practice. The top priority of the practice is to give each patient the highest quality of care available. We provide care for abdominal and peripheral aneurysms, care for peripheral arterial disease (PAD), vein care including treatment of varicose veins and venous ulcers. Remember, your vascular surgeon is your first line of defense in guarding your most valuable possession of all: your health.

SERVICES PROVIDED AT OUR OFFICE:

  • Medical and surgical management of peripheral vascular disease including peripheral arterial disease (PAD), carotid artery disease, aortic aneurysms, other aneurysms, intestinal artery disease.
  • Minimally-invasive treatment of peripheral vascular disease including PAD, carotid artery disease, aortic aneurysms, iliac vein stenosis (May-Thurner Syndrome), deep venous thrombosis (blood clots).
  • Open vascular surgery including lower extremity bypass for PAD, endarterectomy, carotid surgery, aortic aneurysm surgery.
  • Varicose vein treatment including minimally-invasive varicose vein closure, phlebectomy (microsurgical removal of visible varicose veins), sclerotherapy (injection of visible varicose veins and spider veins).

Our Providers

Peter N. Purcell, MD

Dr. Peter Purcell is a Vascular Surgeon with 28 years of experience in the management of vascular disease. He is skilled and experienced in open vascular surgery as well as endovascular techniques. His practice includes the broad range of vascular surgery including carotid artery disease, aneurysms, lower extremity bypass, arteriography and venography, and the management of venous disease including varicose veins, deep venous thrombosis, and iliac vein disease (May-Thurner Syndrome). He is trained and experienced in endovascular (minimally-invasive) management of arterial disease, venous disease and aortic aneurysms.

Dr. Purcell is a graduate of the Brody School of Medicine of East Carolina University. After earning his medical degree, he completed his internship and residency in general surgery and critical care at the University of Cincinnati, and then completed specialty fellowship training in vascular surgery at Massachusetts General Hospital. He is board-certified in Vascular Surgery.

In addition to his office practice, Dr. Purcell has served as a member of the medical staff of hospitals in this region for many years, and has served as a hospital board of directors member, credentials committee member, chief of surgery, and as a member and chairman of hospital peer-review committees. He is married with three grown children, and he and his wife are members of Saint Mary of the Hills Episcopal Church in Blowing Rock.

Teri Lee, FNP

Teri obtained her Associate of Science in Nursing from Caldwell Community College, her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Lees-McRae College, and her Master of Science in Nursing at East Tennessee State University. Her 17 years of medical experience includes dialysis, cardiology, orthopedic pain management, ophthalmology, and vascular care. For the last six years she has specialized in the diagnosis and management of vascular disease at Horizon. Teri has a strong passion for vascular disease management and treatment and understands that living with vascular disease can be a source of anxiety and concern in patients. Building a trusting relationship with her patients is important to her and she is committed to giving them the education, attentiveness, and dedication they need and deserve.

Along with surgical consultation, medication management and close monitoring of her patients with peripheral vascular disease, Teri also has advanced training in phlebectomy and sclerotherapy procedures. She offers these in-office services to medically and cosmetically treat enlarged varicose veins and spider veins.

Teri is a native of our region and outside of work enjoys recreation and travel with her two children.
