Catawba Valley Health System Names New President of its Medical Group

Catawba Valley Health System (CVHS) has announced the hiring of Mariane Carna as the new president of its Catawba Valley Medical Group (CVMG). Carna comes to CVHS from Novant Health, Inc., where she had served as System Senior Vice President since 2020.

Carna holds Bachelor and Master of Science in Nursing degrees. In addition to her time at Novant Health, she held executive positions at Hartford Health Care in Connecticut, Yale-New Haven Hospital in Connecticut, and New York-Presbyterian Hospital in New York, and TeleTracking Technologies in Pittsburgh, PA, among others.

Dennis Johnson, CVHS president and CEO, hailed Carna’s addition by saying, “Mariane has an extraordinary wealth of experience in several of the most distinguished organizations in healthcare. She has excelled in leading high-level operations and expansion of services at each of her stops, which aligns perfectly with our strategic vision for our organization.”

Carna has been recognized for establishing incentive plans for multiple physicians – private and employed – along with nursing/non-clinical recruitment and retention strategies. She has served in several executive leadership roles directing physician, nursing, and support teams to achieve programmatic goals and align strategic program objectives, quality, and financial performance.

Among her many notable achievements include being honored with “Individual Service Excellence” by Senior Administration, and “Excellence in Leadership” at New York-Presbyterian. She also led the effort to achieve national ranking in U.S. News and World report as one of the top 10 centers of excellence in Cardiovascular Services and, overall, as an organization supporting a multidisciplinary team focused on clinical excellence.

Carna will oversee Catawba Valley Medical Group, which comprises 16 family practices and six specialty care practices in Catawba and Caldwell counties. She began her employment with CVHS on Monday, September 23.
