Catawba Valley Health System (CVHS) proudly introduces the latest advancement
in surgical technology by acquiring the da Vinci 5 Surgical Robot. This
state-of-the-art system represents a significant leap forward in minimally
invasive surgery and underscores the CVHS commitment to providing patients
with the highest standard of care throughout North Carolina.
This new robot, the only one of its kind in the region, is poised to revolutionize
surgical procedures with its precision, dexterity, and enhanced visualization
capabilities. Da Vinci 5 is Intuitive’s most advanced surgical system,
designed to enable better patient outcomes, efficiency and insights, and
as a result, help lower the cost of care.
“We are thrilled to bring this one-of-a-kind surgical robot to our
medical center,” said Dennis Johnson, CVHS president and CEO. “This
cutting-edge technology allows our surgeons to perform complex procedures
with unparalleled precision, which can result in shorter recovery times,
reduced risk of complications, and improved outcomes. Our patients will
now have exclusive access to advanced treatment options previously unavailable
in this region.”
CVHS surgical leaders say da Vinci 5 will allow surgeons to feel more and
see more and the machine addresses often undervalued surgeon ergonomics.
The da Vinci 5 also enables surgeons to sense and measure the force exerted
on tissue during surgery. “Force feedback is a first of its kind
technology. Preclinical trials showed up to 43 percent less force on tissue.
That translates to gentler surgery for patients,” said Dr. Baker
Henson, DO, FACS. “The DV5 includes the latest technology including
Force Feedback as well as 10,000 times the computing capacity of the older
generation robots. This allows us to provide a better operative experience
for our patients.”
“CVHS has been at the forefront of technology, including robotic
surgery, for over 17 years,” said Dr. Todd Fridley, DO, FACOS, surgeon.
“This robot will have multiple new software features, that will
allow more autonomous control for the surgeon. We are excited to have
this new robot and we are very excited that CVHS trusted us to be one
of the first in the region to have this new technology.”
This surgical robot is suitable for various procedures, including urological,
gynecological, and general surgeries. Its versatility and precision make
it an invaluable tool for surgeons across multiple specialties. It enables
them to perform intricate procedures with greater accuracy and control.
Its minimally invasive approach minimizes trauma to surrounding tissues,
which can lead to faster recovery times and shorter hospital stays for patients.
