New Cardiology Practice Welcomes New Patients
HICKORY, NC—For the first time in more than twenty years, there is
a new cardiology practice in our area – Catawba Valley Cardiology
joins Catawba Valley Medical Group as a service of Catawba Valley Medical
Center. Brian Steg M.D., FACC, and Derek Luney M.D., FACC, and Lisa Vollano
Michel, PA-C will practice as Catawba Valley Cardiology, effective this month.
Dr. Steg was a co-founder of Hickory Cardiology Associates, where he worked
from 1983 to July 2011. He earned his medical degree from Case Western
Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio and his Bachelor of Arts from the
College of Wooster. He completed his fellowship, residency, and internship
at Bowman Gray School of Medicine in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. He
is boarded by the American board of Internal Medicine in Internal Medicine
Cardiology and Interventional Cardiology. Dr. Steg is a fellow of the
American College of Cardiology, American College of Physicians, American
College of Chest Physicians, and is a fellow of the Society of Coronary
Angiography and Intervention. Dr. Steg performs cardiac catheterizations,
coronary angioplasty, stenting and pacemakers. He also diagnoses and treats
peripheral vascular disease.
Dr. Luney worked at Hickory Cardiology Associates, PLLC, from 1996-June
2011 and Cardiology Associates of Anderson from 1995-1996. He earned his
medical degree from the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta, GA, and
his Bachelor of Science in Biology and Mathematics from Guilford College
in Greensboro, N.C. Dr. Luney completed his fellowship, residency and
internship from the University of Alabama in Birmingham, Alabama. He is
a fellow of the American College of Cardiology. Dr Luney performs cardiac
catheterizations and also has interest in non-invasive evaluation of the
heart including echocardiography and nuclear cardiology.
Lisa Michel worked at Hickory Cardiology from 2000 to July 2011. She completed
her Physician Assistant Master of Science from Aracadia University in
Glenside, PA, and her Bachelor of Science in Biology with a concentration
in Bioethics from Nazareth College in Pitsford, NY. Professionally, Michel
is NCCPA Certified, ACLS Certified, and has been a member of the AAPA
from 2000 to the present.
