HICKORY — Sharon Smith, a wellness nurse, will talk about health
issues facing seniors at the monthly meeting of Newcomers of Catawba Valley.
Smith, RN, MSN, works at Catawba Valley Medical Center’s Health
First program. She teaches CPR and first aid classes.
Her presentation, to be held at 10:30 a.m. on Aug. 9, will also advise
participants what to do for a victim until EMTs arrive. The meeting will
be held at Hickory Regional Airport, 3101 Ninth Ave. Drive, NW, and is
open to the public.
Newcomers of Catawba Valley is primarily a social organization that enables
new and long-time residents of the region to meet, make friends and participate
in a variety of activities, including support of area charities and service
programs. The club is made up of men and women and does not limit how
long a member may belong.
Monthly general meetings are usually held at the Hickory Regional Airport
at 10:30 a.m. on the second Wednesday of every month. Variations in that
schedule as well as the calendar of activities and special events are
posted on the group’s website. For more information, visit
