Catawba Valley Medical Center (CVMC) has been recognized as a Top 100 Hospital
in America for Patient Experience by the Women’s Choice Award for
2025. It was one of 10 awards received from that organization. The Women's
Choice Award is the only designation that takes into consideration the
preferences of women when selecting a hospital.
The other nine awards received were for excellence in Bariatric Surgery,
Cancer Care, Heart Care, Minimally Invasive Surgery, Obstetrics, Orthopedics,
Outpatient Experience, Patient Safety, and Stroke Care. CVMC was awarded
10 awards for 2024 as well, a record number at that time.
Michelle Lusk, CVMC’s Chief Nursing Officer, said, “Providing
exceptional patient experience through quality, safety and customer service
is not only best for patients, but it also results in greater employee
morale and satisfaction, thereby reducing turnover and helping recruit
top talent. A culture of award-winning patient experience helps keep patients
loyal and happy and less likely to change providers or health systems.”
She added, “To consider all the awards received for 2025 shows we
are delivering amazing care. We’re proud to share these accomplishments
with the region we serve.”
Upon notifying CVMC of its 2025 distinctions, Women’s Choice Award
explained that patients today are more involved in their care and demand
a greater experience throughout their entire journey of care, putting
more emphasis on healthcare providers to find ways to become more patient-centered
to meet these demands.
Delia Passi, founder and CEO of the Women’s Choice Award, said, “To
help women simplify their choices, the 100 Best Hospitals for Patient
Experience are awarded because – among many factors – they
excel in the patient’s willingness to recommend, as well as physician
communications, staff help, cleanliness, providing recovery information,
explanation of medications, communication by nurses and peacefulness of
the room at night.”
Passi further explained that the methodology used to select Catawba Valley
Medical Center as one of the 100 Best Hospitals for Patient Experience
is unique in that it evaluates specific Hospital Consumer Assessment of
Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) survey results along with primary
research about women’s healthcare preferences.
