SIR is the Unifour’s newest educational resource for seniors, families
and caregivers. SIR began organizing less than two years ago with a handful
of people and a dream to make it easier for seniors to find the services
they need. Now, it has grown into a 100 plus organization, with members
from businesses, agencies, organizations, profits and nonprofits, with
a mission to enhance the needs of and services for the senior population.
The first big project for SIR, in collaboration with the Catawba County
Chamber of Commerce and the Western Piedmont Council of Governments Council
on Aging, was the Prime of Life Expo, successfully presented last August.
This is a free show that highlights, in one place, the services available
in our area for seniors. The date for the 2013 Expo has been set for August
27 at the Hickory Metro Center.
SIR’s mission is to enhance the lives of seniors by providing a comprehensive
and collaborative point of contact, which focuses on education, resources
and programs for seniors, their families and their caregivers. The organization
strives to meet three main goals: to provide an easy information resource
for seniors; to provide networking for providers to seniors; and to work
to make sure services are available in the area that are needed.
SIR is here to help the growing aging population connect to the resources
they need. For more information on SIR and events scheduled to celebrate
“Older Americans Month,”, please visit sirnc.org.
