Did you know that we recently resumed our Centering Pregnancy groups?
Centering Pregnancy is prenatal care in a group setting with other women
with similar due dates. During each Centering session, time is split between
one-on-one care with a private midwife and group time where wellness topics
are discussed among everyone, and the patient is empowered to be an integral
part of her own care.
During Centering sessions, expecting mothers discuss topics surrounding
their pregnancy such as what to pack in your hospital bag, and they have
the opportunity to do weekly check-ins with healthcare professionals as
well as getting to tour the CVMC Birthing Center ahead of their due date.
With Centering, studies have shown that moms have a decreased risk of preterm
birth, appropriate weight gain throughout pregnancy, increased breastfeeding
rates, and compliance with care.
Centering Pregnancy groups now meet on scheduled Wednesdays in The POD,
which is located in The Center for Women and Children at Catawba Valley
Medical Center. Groups previously met at
Catawba County Public Health. Sessions are offered in both English and Spanish.
