HICKORY, NC – Nov. 28, 2012 – The PET/CT Scanning Center, a
partnership between Catawba Valley Medical Center and Frye Regional Medical
Center, has announced the arrival of the Siemens Biograph mCT to the Catawba
Valley region. The new PET/CT scanner is the latest technology in the
fight against cancer.
“The Biograph mCT offers the latest in PET/CT technology,”
Joe Philyaw, Operations Director at The PET/CT Scanning Center, said.
“Reduced scan time and increased image resolution will help physicians
detect lesions earlier, while increasing patient comfort and scan quality.”
The scanner installation expands services by accommodating more diverse
patient populations. “The combination of shorter scan times and
a larger opening reduces patient anxiety and claustrophobic feelings,”
said Philyaw.
The Biograph mCT offers a 500-pound weight limit, one of the highest in
industry. The flexibility of the system allows future updates to further
enhance imaging technology. In addition to the new scanner, The PET/CT
Scanning Center purchased the latest in interpretation software allowing
radiologists to monitor tumor response to therapy. Physicians can align
treatment based on the results.
“Future updates will provide the opportunity to offer our patients
a broader scope of services. With anticipation of new PET imaging advancements,
the Biograph mCT allows us to better serve our community now and in the
future,” Philyaw said.
The PET/CT Scanning Center is located at 235 18th Street SE in Hickory,
North Carolina. For more information, please call 828.485.2718.
