HICKORY, NC –On Friday, May 2, Catawba Valley Medical Center’s
(CVMC) Health First Center will sponsor a Senior Resource Fair to kick-off
its observance of Older Americans Month. This national celebration aims
to inform seniors about relevant topics to enhance life in the later years.
The free Senior Resource Fair is open to the public from 9am to 12pm on
the lower level of Valley Hills Mall. Vendors will be participating from
more than 40 service organizations including CVMC caregiver representatives
staffing the following exhibits:

CVMC Health First Center – this one-stop resource provides an ongoing
service outreach to seniors from the convenience of its location on the
ground floor of Valley Hills Mall. In celebration of Older Americans Month,
the Health First Center has announced the following unique programs in
May. With the exception of yoga, all classes are free. To register or

Catawba County Breast Cancer Coalition – CVMC oncology team members
will stress the importance of early breast cancer detection in seniors
of both genders and offer resource information for those diag
nosed with breast cancer.
CVMC Heart Services and Primary Stroke Center – highly-trained specialists
from the key areas of stroke and cardiology care will offer prevention,
diagnoses and treatment information.
Center for Diabetes Control – Advocating knowledge and understanding
for patients with diabetes or for those with diabetes risk factors is
the core mission of the Center for Diabetes Control. Stop by and learn
how to prevent, diagnosed or manage diabetes.
CVMC Volunteering – Consider joining the hundreds of CVMC volunteers
who share their time and talents with staff and patients serving in a
host of special roles including answering questions and providing directions
at information desks; volunteering in the Pet Therapy program or playing
music for patients and visitors.
CVMC Center for Sleep Disorders – Tap into the experience of board-registered
sleep specialists to find solutions for troublesome sleep disorders.
CVMC Fitness Plus – Pick up information about senior exercise, nutrition,
fitness, and wellness programs offered at the 10,000 square-foot CVMC
Fitness Plus facility adjacent the hospital. Ask about our temperature-controlled
indoor lap pool among other options for a safe, effective workout designed
to address senior concerns.
