Barbara's Story
Continuing to Thrive Despite Her Cancer Diagnosis
When Barbara Moose (Bobbi) had a chest X-ray in 2017 and heard she had
stage IV lung cancer at 78 years old, she was shocked and scared. But
her doctor, Deji Okuboye, DO, comforted her and moved quickly to set up
all her follow up appointments, which helped her to feel less anxious.
Knowing the treatments she would receive likely would not cure her cancer,
she started right away on a sugar-free, vegan diet with her son, Jeff,
to help her live the longest and best life possible. Since the side effects
of Bobbi’s treatment have been manageable she has been able to do
things she always dreamed of, like visiting Bryce Canyon National Park
in Utah and walking the 11-mile loop at Cades Cove in Tennessee with her
family on her 79thbirthday.
“What a thrill to see the hoodoos of Bryce Canyon towering over me
and to spend time with the people that make me happy,” said Bobbi.
“This would not have been possible without the treatment I received
from the special people at Catawba Valley Medical Center. The cancer treatment
professionals there have become my friends and my family, making a very
challenging experience the best it can be.”
