Dr. Peter Purcell is a Vascular Surgeon with 28 years of experience in
the management of vascular disease. He is skilled and experienced in open
vascular surgery as well as endovascular techniques. His practice includes
the broad range of vascular surgery including carotid artery disease,
aneurysms, lower extremity bypass, arteriography and venography, and the
management of venous disease including varicose veins, deep venous thrombosis,
and iliac vein disease (May-Thurner Syndrome). He is trained and experienced
in endovascular (minimally-invasive) management of arterial disease, venous
disease and aortic aneurysms.
Dr. Purcell is a graduate of the Brody School of Medicine of East Carolina
University. After earning his medical degree, he completed his internship
and residency in general surgery and critical care at the University of
Cincinnati, and then completed specialty fellowship training in vascular
surgery at Massachusetts General Hospital. He is board-certified in Vascular Surgery.
In addition to his office practice, Dr. Purcell has served as a member
of the medical staff of hospitals in this region for many years, and has
served as a hospital board of directors member, credentials committee
member, chief of surgery, and as a member and chairman of hospital peer-review
committees. He is married with three grown children, and he and his wife
are members of Saint Mary of the Hills Episcopal Church in Blowing Rock.
