About
Dr. Sherfey grew up in Severna Park, Maryland, between Annapolis and Baltimore
and graduated as valedictorian of her high school in 1992. Prior to completing
her residency and serving as Chief Resident at Wake Forest University
School of Medicine, Dr. Sherfey received her medical degree at Wake Forest
and her undergraduate degree in psychology from Duke University, where
she met her husband, Josh Sherfey.
Before joining Newton Family Physicians, Dr. Sherfey practiced for two
years in High Point at MedCentral. She and Josh live in Hickory with two
boxers who are spoiled rotten. She and Josh both enjoy travelling and
running half marathons. Dr. Sherfey also enjoys cooking, pottery, and
fitness classes.
Dr. Sherfey practices all aspects of family medicine with the exception
of obstetrics. She enjoys treating patients of all ages and genders but
has a special interest in pediatrics and basic gynecologic care of women.
She also has an interest in treating chronic medical conditions such as
diabetes, dyslipidemia and hypertension.
Dr. Sherfey is board certified and is on active staff at Catawba Valley
Health System, where she previously served as Chair of the Department
of Family Medicine. She is a member of the Catawba County Medical Society,
the North Carolina Academy of Family Physicians and the American Academy
of Family Physicians.
