Maternal Fetal Medicine
Catawba Valley Medical Center’s Maternal and Fetal Care program provides
state- of-the-art care for women with high-risk pregnancies. The team
of maternal-fetal medicine specialists, sonographers and nurses are at
the cutting edge of clinical management in high-risk pregnancies. Our
partner physicians, from Wake Forest Baptist Health in Winston-Salem,
are specially trained to perform detailed level II ultrasound, fetal echocardiography
and diagnostic tests such as chorionic villus sampling, amniocentesis
and fetal blood sampling. They perform ultrasound- guided in-utero blood
transfusions and other in-utero procedures if necessary.
Women with a history of a complicated pregnancy or women who are currently
experiencing medical complications in pregnancy can receive ongoing care
and management through our program. Women with a family history of genetic
disorders or risk factors for birth defects have access to an experienced
team of genetic counselors who provide and coordinate care with our team
of maternal-fetal medicine sub-specialists. Our staff will work closely
with your physician to monitor your health and the health of your baby.
We are available for consultation if you or your physician have questions
regarding how best to care for you during your pregnancy. Another way
we provide safe care close to home.
